Pastoral Spotlight, Episode 3

Dear Billy's Homeplace,

What a treat.  What a treasure.  How many Billy Graham's come along in a lifetime? In a millennia?  For me, because of his profound impact and influence on the world and the New Testament era of time, this Church-age, it felt like we were visiting the home of one Apostle Paul or other Biblical-era messenger of the Lord.  There was a sacredness attached to the visit and the home for me because of the rich history attached to it because of its godly occupants of the past.

It was/is easy to reflect there.  Being somewhat secluded, surrounded by beautiful rhododendrons, it feels a little like a nest - safe, warm, inviting, and peaceful.  You are also drawn to imagining the conversations that took place there as you view the family's framed photos hanging on the walls depicting meetings with global political leaders and others of renown.  Seldom has God given a servant such favor so as to be able to speak into the hearts of not only the masses but also speak the Gospel and wisdom into the hearts of Presidents, Prime Ministers, Elected Officials and celebrities at home and abroad.

A visit to Billy's Homeplace is memorable and impacting.  You admire not only the privilege of visiting his homeplace but also admiring the humble surroundings which could have been just as impressive in opulence had the Grahams been drawn to such.  Instead, you will be impressed by the simplicity the Grahams chose as their lifestyle, just another means of honoring God and the sacred call upon this family and home.

To know that this warm, inviting home is a refuge, of sorts, to the Lord's laborers in the Field is also a sacred thing to behold.  How the Grahams would rejoice in knowing that their little slice of Heaven on Earth is being used to do the same for God's servants, His pastors and missionaries, who simply need some restorative time away.  Such special thanks and gratitude goes to Charlotte business-owners, Stephen and Marilyn Thomas, Mrs. Ruth Graham, accomplished author, speaker, and daughter of Billy and Ruth Graham, and well-known and beloved actor Kirk Cameron for their heart and vision to make this a place of rest and renewal for the faithful servants of the Lord.

In Grace and Shalom,
